NIC, Inc. provides eGovernment services that enable governments use the Internet to provide various services to businesses and citizens in the United States. It operates in two segments, Portal Outsourcing, and Software and Services. The Portal Outsourcing segment enters into long-term contracts with governments to design, build, and operate Web-based portals on their behalf. These portals consist of Web sites and applications that enable businesses and citizens to access government information online and complete transactions, including applying for a permit, retrieving driver�s license records, and filing a government-mandated form or report. The Software and Services segment provides software applications and services for electronic filings and document management solutions for governments, as well as designs and develops online campaign expenditure and ethics compliance systems for federal and state government agencies. The company also provides consulting, development, and management services to government portals. NIC, Inc., formerly known as National Information Consortium, Inc., was founded in 1991 and is based in Olathe, Kansas.
